Welcome to Quantum Leading

Hi everyone!

I started the Quantum Leading blog to give you a deeper sense of my approach to leadership development, and to offer helpful tips and thought-provoking ideas that I believe will make a difference for you. But first, a bit of background...

Why Quantum Leadership?
As I see it, quantum physics is the science of possibility. It underscores the idea that reality is not some external set of occurrences happening regardless of whether we pay attention to it, but rather we create our reality through our thoughts, words and actions. While at first, this may seem radical and even scary, when you let it sink in, I think you will find it quite empowering. So what if we create our own reality? What does that actually mean and how does it affect my life?

Glad you asked! To me, the idea that you create your own reality opens up entirely new possibilities, free from the constraints that we have come to believe apply to our lives. We all have lenses through which we see the world, or rather from which we create reality. These lenses, which we imposed on ourselves at some time in the past, determine the reality we create, and constrain our view of what's possible. Isn't it strange that so many hardworking, intelligent, well-meaning people spend their lives going on diet after diet struggling to lose those 5, 10, or 30 pounds. Consider that it's the lens though which they create their reality that determines whether it's possible for them to take the consistent actions necessary to lose the weight, and that anything they do or try inside the current lens (which probably looks something like: "I'll never lose the weight") will not work. When you see that our lenses create our reality, what becomes possible is removing the lens and making quantum leaps in your life.

What do I mean by quantum leaps?
First, what quantum leaps are not: Quantum leaps are not merely incremental changes; doing things a little better than you did them before, then a bit better, and so on.

As I see it, quantum leaps are a step function, a sudden, revolutionary shift, a breakthrough. Our friends at Wikipedia can be helpful here:

"In physics, a quantum leap or quantum jump is a change of an electron from one quantum state to another within an atom. It is discontinuous; the electron jumps from one energy level to another instantaneously. The phenomenon contradicts classical theories, which expect energy levels to be continuous. Quantum leaps cause the emission of electromagnetic radiation, including that of light, which occurs in the form of quantized units called photons.

In the vernacular, the term quantum leap has come to mean an abrupt change or "step change", especially an advance or augmentation. The term dates back to early-to-mid-20th century, coinciding with the discoveries of quantum mechanics. The popular and scientific terms are similar in that both describe a change that happens all at once (revolutionary), rather than gradually over time (evolutionary), but the two uses are different when it comes to the magnitude of the change or advance in question."

So, Quantum Leading is a new approach to leadership in which leaders become aware of the lens through which they see the world, create new possibilities for their lives and organizations, and achieve results that would have seemed impossible through their old lens of the world.
